He used to play football during his initial years; however, when the former Afghanistani cricketers Nawroz Mangal and Noor Ali Zadran visited his hometown, the people of the area gave them a rousing reception.
This impressed Gurbaz, and he wished that he would be treated in a similar way one day, hence he started to play cricket.
His friend Qadir Gurbaz supported him to pursue his dreams. He started playing cricket by playing tennis ball cricket in his neighbourhood. He later made a pitch in his field where he practised with his friends.
He started playing professional cricket at Mohammad Khan Zadran Club in 2014.
His family did not support him as his father wanted him to study hard; however, he wanted to become a cricketer..
