Martin Andersson made two county debuts in as many games as the 2018 Championship season neared its end, first being loaned out to Derbyshire for a first appearance against Glamorgan and then being summoned back to Middlesex at a few hours' notice to make his bow against Kent at Lord's. If he was not entirely sure who he was playing for, 12 wickets in four games represented solid beginnings. He also made a T20 Blast appearance against Sussex.
Andersson, a genuine allrounder, came through the Middlesex Academy and signed a three-year contract with the county while completing his studies at Leeds University in the meantime. In 2015 Andersson featured in the England Under 19 Development squad and hit 70* against Australia Under 19s at Loughborough. A double stress fracture of the back hampered his progress in the 2019 season, but after focussing on his batting while unable to bowl, he produced a maiden first-class fifty against Division Two champions, Lancashire.
